Blue is the New White Podcast

Sep 4, 2020

Our guest today is nothing short of impressive. Joanna Osawe started in the renewable energy sector about 15 years ago as one of only a few women in the industry. After working her way up to developing windfarms in Canada and launched WiRE, Women in Renewable Energy, in 2013. WiRE focuses on Advancing the roles and recognition of the women in the energy sector. Over the past 7 years WiRE has grown nationally across all of Canada and now internationally, to several countries in the middle east.

Having a mother who was a microbiologist and a father who was an engineer set the stage for Joanna to unwittingly excel in an up and coming industry heavy in hands on work and technology. I say unwittingly because when a recruiter sent her to discuss what she thought was a pharmaceuticals position, it was in fact for wind turbine generators. And thank God for that, because Joanna fell in love with the industry and the people in it. And the impact she’s had on the skilled trades is a direct result.

Remember what I say? Often we enter the industry on accident, but we stay on purpose. Imagine what the industry would look like if we start to enter on purpose!

So break out those headphones, turn up the volume, and get comfortable. As always, this show is not monetized & we don’t run ads. We rely strictly on the word of mouth from our listeners to further the mission. So if you enjoyed this episode, please take a moment to rate, review, and share. The future generations of skilled tradespeople depend on it. On you! So thank you again and enjoy this episode of Blue is the New White with Joanna Osawe.
