Today I have an opportunity to sit down with someone I truly admire. One of the biggest advocate of the trades out there. And someone who will change the landscape of the industry forever. Over the past several weeks you have heard from all the amazing ambassadors for Kick Ass Careers. Today, I sit down with their founder, their fearless leader, the great Jamie McMillan.
Talk about an incredible journey. Jamie grew up a bit of a rebel. Always gravitated toward a life of excitement and stayed off the beaten path. She grew up in a very religious atmosphere, but certainly didn’t take the traditional route to a career. She dropped out of high school, partied hard, and went down a path she wasn’t proud of. In an attempt to turn things around she became a Personal Support Worker in nursing homes and the like, but had a hard time not taking those emotions home with her. She began bartending, and was heading back down that dark path she was trying to pull herself out of when something happened she couldn’t explain.
An old high school nemises recognized her walking down the street in a town 500 miles away from where they grew up and essentially introduced her to the trades. Jamie became an ironworker, driven by the sense of empowerment and accomplishment. Starting speaking about the trades. Expanded her skills to boilermaking, started Kick Ass Careers, and even published a kids coloring book on her way to becoming one of the most inspirational advocates on the planet.
Keep listening to hear Jamie’s story about how the skilled trades LITERALLY saved her life. As always, this show is not monetized & we don’t run ads. We rely strictly on the word of mouth from our listeners to further the mission. So if you enjoyed this episode, please take a moment to rate, review, and share. The future generations of tradespeople depend on it. On you! So thank you again and enjoy this episode of Blue is the New White with Jamie McMillan
